Privacy
Barkistan is a community project. This page says plainly what we collect and what we do with it.
What we collect when you browse
- Location — only if you tap “Use my location”. It is used to sort clinics by distance, put in the page URL, and remembered in your browser (localStorage) for a week. It is not sent to our database.
- No accounts, no tracking pixels, no ad networks. Our host may keep standard server logs.
What we collect when you submit a report
- Everything you type in the form. Your display name is shown publicly unless you tick anonymous. Your contact (if given) is private — used only if a moderator needs to verify something — and is never shown or sold.
- A hashed version of your IP address, kept only to limit spam.
Community content (WhatsApp, Facebook, Reddit)
Some community reports are derived from the Barkistan WhatsApp groups (used with the admins' permission) and from public Facebook and Reddit threads about vets in Pakistan. Before anything is published we remove names, phone numbers, addresses and @-mentions, paraphrase the experience in the third person, and have a moderator approve it. Where a direct quote is shown, it is anonymised (attributed only to “a Facebook/Reddit user”). The original messages and raw exports are never published and are not stored in the public database.
Want something removed? If a report reflects your message and you'd rather it wasn't there, message a Barkistan admin in the group or use the “Tell us” link on the clinic page. We remove first and ask questions later.
Clinics and vets
Business details (name, address, phone, hours, rating, reviews, photos) are fetched live from Google Places and shown with attribution under Google's terms. Community reports are individual members' opinions about their own experience. If you run a clinic and believe a report is inaccurate, contact a Barkistan admin; we will review it and add a note where appropriate. We do not remove honest negative experiences on request.
